Muddy Waters Outfitters is a network of volunteers and premier properties that exclusively use hunting, fishing, and outdoor experiences as a humanitarian lever and platform to fundamentally change, heal, and make a difference in the lives of others.
There’s nothing quite like spending time in the great outdoors. But for the hunting or fishing enthusiasts out there, being outdoors is more than just fresh air and sunshine. It requires adequate planning, coordination, and the right gear to catch the day. Hunting and fishing go hand in hand with the importance of caring for our natural resources.
The program is designed to encourage new hunters and increase self-sufficiency and decrease reliance on traditional food sources such as grocery stores. Further helps ensure the cultural heritage of hunting and sport fishing will be passed on to future generations. National and international studies recognize that active, nature-based recreation leads to happier, healthier, and smarter lifestyles. Increased participation further leads to more excellent resource stewardship and economic benefits, including job creation.
Muddy Waters aims to introduce traditional, indigenous, and contemporary hunting methods and wildlife, which achievement, culture, community, leadership, and self-respect through adventure. Settings in place for young people and families to develop skills for hunting, fishing, and wildlife viewing (youth hunts, fishing ponds, wildlife viewing trails); experience shooting sports (archery, rifle, and shotgun ranges); provide boating instruction and opportunities (kayak, canoe, Jon boats, sailboats); and learn about fish and wildlife management and conservation (hands-on field programs). They achieve public benefits by providing youth with opportunities to learn safe and sustainable ways to enjoy lifetime outdoor recreational traditions.
Research has shown that it is essential to introduce youth to the fun and challenge of nature-based recreational activities such as hunting and fishing. It is also necessary to support children through mentoring and community-based opportunities that reinforce their learning and encourage stewardship and conservation of natural resources.
We could always feed our kids venison. But that’s cheating them of the fantastic experiences that the autumn woods hold for archery fanatics. Bowhunting doesn’t just teach us about the natural world, the resilient wildlife species that inhabit it, and food awareness. It also teaches us virtues like patience, respect, ethics, confidence, responsibility, and emotional control. It doesn’t take much imagination to agree that more children would be better off as adults with these traits.
But on a larger scale, hunter recruitment and retention are extremely important for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. Hunters are consistently at the forefront of wildlife conservation and habitat restoration efforts. As hunter numbers decline, so does the funding and interest in these causes. Introducing children to the sport is the cure-all solution.
Great, great grandfather was part of an extended family tradition of hunting and giving back to the resource
